Benassi, is the owner operator of the BARS Company Group comprising of BARS Training Australia, a Registered Training Organisation (Provider Number 32061), BARS Protection Services, BARS Consultants and Bouncer Buddy Products.
He is the current National President of the Security Providers Association of Australia (SPAAL), and has been an active board member of the following organisations / committees.

After joining in 1982, Garry server over 24 years in operational policing with the Queensland Police Service reaching the rank of Senior Sergeant in charge of police operations at Fortitude Valley, now having over 35 years policing and liquor licensing experience. During his police service he was awarded both the National Medal and the Queensland Police Medal for diligent and ethical conduct.
For the last 9 years of his police service, Garry coordinated up to 7 agencies specialising in the development and maintenance of harm reduction. Garry was the original founder of the Liquor Enforcement and Proactive Strategies (LEAPS) process that forms a part of the Brisbane City 17 Point Safety Action Plan, playing in integral part in transforming liquor licensing law in Queensland, the overturning of Fitzgerald Recommendations and the implementation of the Queensland Police Liquor Enforcement Unit.
Since 1997, Garry has lectured harm minimisation strategies, environmental design and liquor licensing compliance to health departments, enforcement agencies and the private sector throughout Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
He has been an Operational Skills Instructor since 1994, training police officers, together with a number of other law enforcement agencies. This training included use of force options open to police officers including conflict resolution, tactical communication and control and restraint techniques.
He holds the following educational qualifications:
- Diploma of Government Investigations
- Diploma of Work Health and Safety;
- Diploma of Security and Risk Management;
- Diploma of Public Safety (Policing);
- Diploma of Justice Administration; and
- Diploma of Business
is currently a licensed crowd controller, bodyguard, security guard, security advisor, private investigator and approved manager under the Liquor Act 1992.
